Key Challenges

The Problem

Volvo owners had limited options when purchasing tyres and spare parts through official channels. The existing system only connected users to a small subset of dealers, often resulting in limited availability and no visibility into competitive pricing. Users frequently turned to third-party providers, missing out on Volvo-approved quality assurance.

Process & Research

Worked directly with Volvo's PM and Product Owner to understand the dealer network structure and business requirements. Mapped the existing purchase journey and identified key friction points. Conducted user research to understand how Volvo owners currently source parts and what factors drive their purchasing decisions—price transparency emerged as a critical need.

The Solution

Designed a new purchase flow that connects users to a larger network of Volvo-approved dealers. The key feature is a price comparison tool that displays availability and pricing across multiple dealers, allowing users to make informed decisions. The flow guides users through part selection, dealer comparison, and seamless checkout while maintaining trust in Volvo-approved quality.

Results & Impact

Successfully expanded the dealer network accessible to customers. The price comparison feature increased user confidence in purchasing decisions and reduced drop-off during the consideration phase. Users now have transparency into pricing across the dealer network while staying within the Volvo ecosystem.

Reflection

This project highlighted the importance of balancing user needs (price transparency, choice) with business goals (keeping customers in the Volvo ecosystem). The lean team structure—just three of us—enabled quick decision-making and close collaboration with stakeholders. Price comparison UX required careful consideration to avoid overwhelming users while providing meaningful comparisons.
